Recreating common objects out of clay is a subtle and transformative act. I choose objects that have an inherent emotional charge, moving them from the realm of the known into the unknown. It is this mystery that makes them “other.” Rhythm and the repetition of form reinforce the way these objects are found in real life. In contrast to the majority of images that bombard us everyday, these straightforward objects are minimal and achieve an unadorned simplicity. The weathered surfaces and faded colors suggest an earlier time; simultaneously, they are contemporary objects.
