Assignment: Duality\Word Play

This assignment focused on the concept of duality.  Students created objects based on two contrasting ideas or a word play.  Students were challenged to build on a larger scale as well as to visually communicate their ideas.

Assignment: Found Object

The objectives of this assignment were to introduce the beginning clay student to a variety of construction techniques as well as encourage careful observation of an object. Students selected an object that reflected an aspect of their personality or that had an interesting personal history.

Assignment: Functional Pottery

Students developed a theme and created utilitarian vessels by handbuilding or throwing on the wheel.  In addition, each student made a matching dinnerware place setting. The culmination of this project was an end-of-the-semester potluck featuring homemade food.

Assignment: Historical Vessel

Students researched a historical pot, vessel, or sculpture to recreate, paying careful attention to the form, surface and decoration.
